Marcia Hero began her art career at the age of 8 when her mother enrolled her in classes at the Milwaukee Art Museum. She continued to take classes there throughout her childhood. During those classes, she remembers painting and sketching some of Milwaukee's former landmarks such as the old Northwestern Train Depot and the T.A. Chapman's department store.
While living in Monterrey, Mexico as a young adult, from 1972 to 1976, Marcia took oil painting classes at the Instituto Technologico and de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. After moving to El Salvador, Central America in 1976, she painted exclusively in oils and sold paintings to family and friends. Upon her return to the U.S. in 1980, her art took a back seat to family life, but in 1988 she enrolled in the fine arts program at Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While there, she focused on ceramics and won a $500 scholarship for a ceramic vessel titled "Man's Discovery".
Marcia's home and garden were featured in the July 10, 2005 Entree section of the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinal, and were part of the Enderis Park Neighborhood home tour that year. www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=338770 Also in 2005, Marcia began to take Acrylic and Pastel classes at Artist & Display in Milwaukee and realized that painting really is her passion. She has now added pastel, and acrylic paintings to her repertoire, and has several paintings hanging in the West James Gallery in Columbus, Wisconsin. Marcia is currently a member of the board of the Southeast Wisconsin Pastel Society, a member of the Wisconsin Designer Crafts Council, the Milwaukee Arts Board, and has membership in several other art related organizations. |
